One of the biggest projects in the region is off to a delayed start thanks to heavy widespread rain falling recently.
Despite the weather delay, stage one of the Cedar Part Creek Bridge replacement on the main entrance to Wingham is tracking along nicely.
The first stage consists of constructing the detour which will cross the creek on the western side of the bridge and connect with Combined Street just below the Wingham Memorial Swimming Pool.
Stage one is expected to be complete by 14 August and the detour open to traffic and at that same time the Cedar Party Creek Bridge and the Combined Street intersection will be closed for demolition and construction work to begin.
Motorists are urged to be extra cautious when driving in the area and obey all road signs.
The planned completion date for the project is now November 2025, however that is still weather depending.
The Cedar Party Creek Bridge is a $222 million project that replaces the existing bridge in its current alignment.
The new bridge will be elevated to meet or exceed the 100-year flood level, raising it close to the level of the Wynter and Combined Streets intersection.
The current intersection will also be replaced by a roundabout which will allow for better traffic flow in the area.
Symal Infrastructure were engaged as the principal contractor for the project and construction work has begun on the detour across the creek.
Rain events at the beginning of this year slightly hampered the start date of work.
