  • Work now underway on the Kalamunda Community Centre with first sod turned
  • State Government contributed $3 million with an additional $2.5 million from Lotterywest
  • Centre to support local jobs and provide vital services once complete in 2021
  • Key McGowan Government election commitment
  • Premier Mark McGowan joined Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes and representatives from the City of Kalamunda to turn the sod - marking commencement of construction of the new Kalamunda Community Centre.

The new community hub, a key McGowan Government election commitment, is expected to be completed in early 2021.

The Centre, being built by Western Australian company Pindan, will create local jobs during construction, and provide vital services to the community when complete.

Key features of the new building include seven activity rooms, two halls, office space, a kitchen, bathrooms, outdoor play areas and a viewing deck. Timber and stone design textures will give the building a natural feel, paying tribute to its surrounds.

The State Government contributed $3 million to the project, with another $2.5 million provided through Lotterywest, bringing the State's total contribution to $5.5 million.

A further $1 million was provided by the Commonwealth Government and $150,000 contributed by the Kalamunda Learning Centre.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

"Having an accessible and modern space for local community members to meet is very important so I'm pleased my Government has been able to contribute to this project.

"The new Kalamunda Community Centre, expected to be complete in 2021, will help bring people from all over the Perth Hills together in a brand new state-of-the-art facility.

"With the construction being undertaken by Pindan builders, this project will create local jobs and when complete provide vital community services.

As stated by Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes:

"I am thrilled this project has come to fruition - one which meets a long established need - and to have advocated for its funding.

"The newly designated Kalamunda Community Centre will provide a fabulous new home for the Kalamunda Learning Centre to be shared with other existing and emerging community groups.

"The substantial funding by the State Government and Lotterywest is an indication of the strong support provided by the McGowan government to community infrastructure in the Kalamunda electorate.

"This funding will help relieve the pressure on the City's finances for the provision of other much needed community facilities."
