Construction has commenced on a new, modern fire station for the Pyalong Fire Brigade, with the official turning of the sod marking the momentous occasion this week.
CFA Commander Paul Brislin joined Pyalong Fire Brigade Captain Brendan Kelly and Minister for Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes on-site to observe the start of the works on Thursday, 3 October, alongside eager brigade members.
The new CFA Pyalong Fire Station being developed on Eades Way, Pyalong will replace the current station nearby on Power Street.
Pyalong Captain Brendan Kelly said the new station will be an exciting addition to not only the brigade, but the wider community.
"The station will be larger and more modern which will better accommodate the brigade's needs well into the future," Brendan said.
"It will help empower the brigade to continue responding to incidents and serving the community, providing improved safety and facilities for our members.
"We're very grateful to be receiving a new home and it's exciting to see the build get underway."
Based on a rural volunteer station, the new fit-for-purpose space will feature a motor room with two reverse-in bays, storage spaces, operational areas and a multipurpose room. Externally, a car park and two external storage sheds will be developed.
CFA Commander Paul Brislin said the design incorporates separate turn-out spaces for men and women volunteers, including separate toilet and private change facilities.
"The station has also been designed with sustainability in mind, with a solar panel system, provision for future installation of an electrical vehicle charging station, rainwater recycling, and water sensitive designs within the landscaping.
"I have no doubt this new state-of-the-art station will serve the brigade and the community well for many years to come."
More than $3.3 million has been allocated for the project by the State Government, with an initial investment of $830,000 through CFA's Capability Program.
The remainder of the funds stems from the brigade's contribution of $60,000 and the Emergency Services Organisation Infrastructure (ESOI) initiative.
Pyalong Fire Brigade currently has a membership of 78 volunteers, including 56 males and 22 females, 44 operational firefighters and two tankers.
Construction of the new station is expected to be complete in mid-2025.
