The final design for Stage Two of the Main South Road duplication has been released, with major construction work about to kick off.
Works on the newly-duplicated Main South Road between Seaford and Port Road, Aldinga, are nearing final completion.
This next stage will see the duplication of Main South Road continued from Aldinga Beach Road to Sellicks Beach, delivering on a major election commitment at the 2022 state election.
The project includes the realignment of the Aldinga Beach Road and Sellicks Beach Road intersection, an underpass at the intersection of Main South Road with the newly realigned Aldinga Road and Aldinga Beach Road, and three U-turns to facilitate local access, in addition to the Aldinga interchange.
It also includes intersection upgrades at Hart and Colville Roads, Norman and Rogers Roads, and Hahn and Cox Roads, plus installation of wide centre medians and wire rope barriers to improve safety by separating northbound and southbound traffic.
A shared use path will be built along the western side of Main South Road, from Aldinga to Sellicks Beach.
The project is expected to be completed in 2026 and support approximately 405 full-time equivalent jobs per annum over the construction period.
Stage Two of the Main South Road duplication is delivered as part of the $810.4 million Fleurieu Connections project, funded by the South Australian and Australian governments.

All four lanes of Stage One of the Main South Road duplication have opened to traffic - and now we're getting on with our election commitment to duplicate the road all the way to Sellicks Beach.
Around 17,000 vehicles travel on Main South Road every day. Continuing the duplication will improve safety and travel times for motorists, while also improving road and network connectivity to support regional growth and tourism across the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Following feedback from those who live, work and travel in the region, we've updated the design of Stage Two to ensure it delivers the best outcome for all road users.
We've added in an additional U-turn, improved pedestrian access at Sellicks Beach and modified the Aldinga interchange to improve connectivity.

The feedback from the community has been positive and locals are excited to finally see work starting on Stage Two.
Labor announced and funded the two stages of the duplication way back in 2017 and unfortunately the Liberal Party came to power the following year and put the project on the backburner.
They also stripped a lane out of the second stage, which had locals screaming 'highway robbery' about the party that gave the southern suburbs a one way expressway.
Labor had a resounding success by taking to the 2022 state election a four-lane, no roundabout plan that aligns Aldinga Beach Rd and Aldinga Rd and allows non-stop north-south traffic.
We listened to locals and are giving them a safe, efficient road that will serve visitors and locals for decades to come.
