The Northern Territory Government has awarded a $6 million contract for flood repair works to Mount Denison Road in Central Australia.
Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, Bill Yan, said Mount Denison Road, located northwest of Alice Springs off the Stuart Highway, is a vital access road for local communities and the mining and pastoral industries.
The road was significantly impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie in the 2022/23 wet season and further sustained weather events over the 2023/24 wet season.
"The Northern Territory Government is focused on delivering better infrastructure for Territorians, to not only ensure better roads for locals but improved access for industry to help drive economic growth," Minister Yan said.
"Rebuilding the economy and restoring the Territory's reputation as a competitive destination to live, work, visit and invest is a key focus of the Northern Territory Government."
Alice Springs-based company, D & C Dehne Constructions, will undertake repair works along various sections of Mount Denison Road, totalling 37.8km.
The project is expected to support nine employees.
Works are anticipated to commence in November 2024 and be completed by June 2025.
The project is jointly funded by the Northern Territory Government and the Australian Government through Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
