Today, 10 October marks World Homeless Day, which aims to raise global awareness that homelessness doesn't discriminate.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Felix Ellis, said that it was more important than ever to shine a light on the real-life impact felt by homelessness.
"All Tasmanians should have a safe, secure roof over their head – and today marks an important moment in what is a 24/7 effort to deliver that," Minister Ellis said.
"Tackling homelessness requires a multifaceted approach, from the bricks and mortar to wraparound support services.
"Our 2030 Plan for Tasmania's Future is allowing us to make significant progress towards this goal – with our $45 million investment each year delivering 20 homelessness shelters, three Safe Spaces and transitional accommodation statewide.
"Initiatives like the 40-bed women's housing service currently being developed at the Old Bethlehem House have never been more important.
"Our Youth2Independence program is an innovative response to supporting young Tasmanians who may be at risk or already experiencing homelessness, an initiative that I champion with immense pride.
"There is always more to be done in this space, but today it is important to acknowledge the impacts being felt and the work being done to end homelessness in Tasmania."
