World-leading sustainability endorsement for Ginninderry

Ginninderry has been granted the coveted green star recertification – proving its world-class leadership in environmental, social and economic sustainability.

"To once again receive a 6-Star Green Star – Communities rating is testament to the high-quality features and detailed planning that make Ginninderry a liveable, environmental and community-focused development," Minister for Housing and Suburban Development, Yvette Berry said.

Green Star rated projects need recertification every five years – scoring suburbs based on liveability, environment, governance and innovation. The certification falls under the Green Building Council of Australia's Green Star - Communities rating scheme.

Ginninderry secured 84 points - up from 81 in 2016 - with extra marks for innovation, sustainability and economic prosperity.

High-scoring initiatives include:

  • Solar energy - all homes have rooftop solar with integrated Home Energy Management Systems, allowing residents to achieve greater control over their energy use.
  • Training and Employment - Ginninderry's award-winning SPARK Training and Employment Program continues to open vocational and employment opportunities to a broad cross-section of the community.
  • Transport - the Strathnairn to Kippax bus service provides public transport options to residents from the day they move in, while a shared e-bike system provides another active travel option.

Sustainability Manager at Ginninderry Jessica Stewart said the result recognises the connection between people and place.

"This rating is a testament that we are delivering Ginninderry's vision of being a sustainable community of international significance," says Ms Stewart.

Riverview Developments and the Suburban Land Agency have also welcomed the internationally recognised certification.
