The ICT news platform and magazine Computable organises an annual survey assessing employers in the ICT sector. We are proud to announce that WUR has been voted this year's best employer for ICT within a non-ICT organisation. Victor Viveen (head of IT at WUR): "This recognition is a wonderful confirmation of our knowledge, skill and dedication. It rewards the commitment of WUR employees inside and outside IT who make it enjoyable and challenging for all of us. We are happy about it, but also realise that it takes a lot to maintain this with all the developments."
The survey, based on almost 2000 responses, showed that organisations could score on 40 different topics. In as many as 6 of these categories, WUR finished in first place. In almost half of the categories, WUR finished in the Top 10. The categories where WUR finished on top (#1) are:
- Corporate culture, working atmosphere and collegiality
- Innovative, appealing products
- Social commitment employer
- Hardware and office automation
- Infrastructure, Networks & Network Management
- ICT in general
Partnership inside and outside WUR
"We recognise the categories in which we score well. After all, it all starts with employees' skills in various fields. In addition, collaboration within and outside WUR in our field is essential," says Victor Viveen. Within the IT department, a strong focus is therefore on organisational development. For example, by learning from other organisations, the opportunity of attending good training courses and by being closely involved in the work of other WUR colleagues. Especially the latter is important, because IT professionals often have the same motivation to work at WUR as other colleagues. Victor Viveen: "Our drive also works outwards: through meet-ups and trainee programmes, we make ourselves heard and attract new people."
About Computable
Computable is an independent trade magazine (and website) for ICT professionals that posts backgrounds and articles on developments in automation and information technology. Readers of the magazine received an invitation to rate the organisation they work for as an ICT employer.
Besides focusing on internal organisational development, collaboration with other universities has also deepened in various areas. In joint groups, for example, work is done on topics such as networking, data centre/cloud, security and architecture. And we also exchange knowledge on specific topics (HPC, Kubernetes, ServiceNow) and in fields such as agile working, process management, contract management and the Servicedesk.
"The appreciation from these institutions for our contributions is great. Together, we are also powerful in the IT arena and that is necessary with all the developments and big big tech companies", says Victor Viveen. 'We notice a lot of exciting developments in our field, the IT labour market and WUR organisation. Expectations are even higher now, but it suits us to see that as a challenge for the whole organisation to maintain this high score. I would say: help us in the collaboration, seek us out and give us feedback.'
