WWF Statement On SBTi Selecting New CEO

WWF

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) announced Tuesday that David Kennedy will serve as its next CEO. WWF issued the following statement from WWF-US president and CEO Carter Roberts in response:

"Ambitious corporate climate targets are only as powerful as the standards and means to achieve them. We look forward to David Kennedy's leadership as he guides SBTi through this critical period to sharpen the science-based standards and approaches for businesses to reduce emissions. And we thank Jenny Ehr for her leadership during this moment of change and transition.

"We are entering a new era of corporate climate action. While the last several years have revealed the real challenges of implementation, science makes clear that weakening our resolve only accelerates both climate impacts and nature loss.

"When we think about paving the way for a net-zero future, we think about three things: market transformation led by corporate action; market integrity that enables impact; and a simpler process to set targets and meet them. Meaningful corporate climate action requires steady progress on these fronts, even when the road gets harder. When we get this right, we can deliver a more secure climate future for people and nature while bolstering resilience within corporate supply chains.

"As we approach 2030, it's time to maintain ambition and focus on emissions reductions across value chains, high-integrity carbon markets, and policy frameworks that support lasting change.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with SBTi to support companies in navigating this make-or-break decade."
