Wyndham City Plans For Werribee City Centre Of Future

Wyndham City has adopted an important refresh of the Werribee City Centre Plan that will guide the growth and development of the City Centre through to 2040.

The refresh - which includes updates to the Werribee City Centre Structure Plan, Parking Strategy, Streetscape Framework and Design Manual, Schedule 1 to the Activity Centre Zone and Parking Overlay - focuses on enhancing the City Centre's strengths to make it even more accessible, vibrant and community focused.

Key highlights include:

  • Transforming Station Place into a vibrant dining and entertainment precinct via a staged approach that retains some traffic movement and parking
  • Creating a new draft Streetscape Framework and Design Manual to guide a series of streetscape upgrades desired by the community
  • Undertaking a traffic management study for the residential precinct south of the Werribee City Centre (west of Duncans Rd) to improve traffic management and amenity

Wyndham City Deputy Mayor, Councillor Josh Gilligan, said the updated Werribee City Centre Plan outlines a strong vision and framework to guide the Werribee City Centre through to 2040.

"Over the past ten years, growth and change in the Werribee City Centre has been guided by a vision, structure plan and policy," Cr Gilligan said.

"The refreshed Plan incorporates feedback we received through extensive community consultation and is designed to help shape the economic, social and cultural growth of the Werribee City Centre in a way the community prefers."

"It focuses on creating a family-friendly City Centre by enhancing public spaces and streetscapes, facilitating and attracting investment, and increasing visitation and activation."

"Now that this important work has been done, Wyndham City will begin planning on a rolling program of streetscape upgrades proposed over the next 10 years, subject to future Council funding."

Next steps will also include progressing a Planning Scheme Amendment for Schedule 1 to the Activity Centre Zone and Schedule 1 to the Parking Overlay to incorporate them into the Wyndham Planning Scheme (subject to a future Council decision).

This process will include a public exhibition period, during which the community will have the opportunity to make submissions.
