Specialist detectives have charged a 20-year-old Wynyard man with rape and other child sex offences following a targeted investigation in Tasmania's north west.
Police will allege the offender initiated contact with a child via social media, before arranging to meet in person and committing the offences.
The man was arrested on Wednesday, and has been charged with rape, penetrative sexual abuse of a young person, indecent assault, and other offences.
He appeared in the Burnie Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody to reappear on 29 August.
