Yarra Council Secures $2M for Road Safety Initiatives

Yarra City Council

Yarra City Council will receive $2 million in funding from the Victorian Government through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which is providing $210 million to improve the safety of local roads across Victoria.

The funded projects include:

  • Upgrade of traffic treatments on Miller Street, Fitzroy North: $546,000 has been allocated towards this project, which is scheduled to begin construction in January 2025.
  • Clifton Hill North Abbotsford - Road Safety Study projects: $1.454 million has been allocated to fund seven separate projects, with works scheduled for delivery in this financial year.

These projects were identified in consultation with the local communities through:

  • area-wide traffic management studies,
  • place making studies, and
  • road safety studies.

They also contribute towards the delivery of key objectives and actions set out in Council's Transport Strategy (2022-2032) and Transport Action Plan (2023-2033).

Yarra City Council is committed to creating a safe environment for all residents to travel, whether they choose to walk, cycle or drive.

The Department of Transport and Planning, in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission, have developed the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program to support the development and delivery of road safety infrastructure projects on local roads.
