A new community space has opened at Yarrabilba.
'The Buzz at Yarrabilba' has been delivered by Logan City Council in partnership with the Queensland Government, Lendlease and Brisbane Catholic Education.
City Lifestyle Chair and Division 4 Councillor Laurie Koranski said The Buzz would allow the community to further connect.
"It will offer the fast-growing Yarrabilba community a space where they can learn, earn, connect and innovate as well as gain access to improved education and employment opportunities," Cr Koranski said.
"The new facility is the result of a wide-reaching collaboration to bring forward this much-needed district community centre.
"Council has worked proactively with the project partners to deliver this vital project and has led the construction and leasing phases.
"Partners have contributed capital funding and years of dedicated service and focus to this project and Council thanks them for their contribution."
Minister for Communities and Housing Leeanne Enoch MP said the new centre was the 128th neighbourhood and community centre to be funded by the Queensland Government, delivering better services for Queenslanders in need.
"The Palaszczuk Government will provide $230,000 funding per year to operate the new centre as part of our record $51.8 million uplift over four years to Neighbourhood and Community Centres right across Queensland," Ms Enoch said.
"Neighbourhood and community centres are the cornerstones of their communities and I know this new centre here in Yarrabilba will serve the growing local community well."
Member for Logan Linus Power MP said the Palaszczuk Government is investing over $2.6 million to build this new neighbourhood and community centre, with local jobs during construction.
"The new centre will be a great base to connect community together, connecting to services and supporting community help each other," Mr Power said.
Lendlease's Head of QLD, Communities, Ian Murray said the new community hub would enhance community connection, employment and skilling for Yarrabilba residents.
"This is a great example of our collaboration with State, Local Government and BCE," Mr Murray said.
"We're delivering on our vision to provide access to training and jobs and we're excited to see The Exchange transition to its new home in this integrated facility."
Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Executive Director, Dr Sally Towns, said the project was BCE's first co-investment partnership.
"BCE is truly proud to have worked for the past seven years with the collective passion of all partners to bring this incredibly innovative concept to fruition - to enhance the opportunities available to the Yarrabilba community - especially its youth," Dr Towns said.
Construction on The Buzz started in October last year with three separate buildings, known as pods, making up the 6000 square metre precinct.
TAFE Queensland has leased Pod 3 with Council today announcing the Y (part of the YMCA organisation) as the successful tender to operate Pods 1 and 2.
"The Y looks forward to working with the project partners and community to activate The Buzz at Yarrabilba," a spokesperson said.
"This is a significant achievement and we congratulate all stakeholders for investing time and resource to build this facility and create a vision. We are extremely excited and feel privileged to be given the opportunity to bring it to life."
The facility, located between Yarrabilba State Secondary College and San Damiano College on Yarrabilba Dr, also features a dedicated youth space.
Programs and services from all tenants at The Buzz will be available soon.
