The Tasmanian Liberal Government's pro-jobs, pro-business approach has delivered significant benefits for Tasmanians as the 2024 Parliamentary year wraps up.
Delivering on the things that matter, the Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future has been a centrepiece of its strong agenda.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Government had delivered reforms that backed economic growth, more jobs and more opportunities while also taking action to support Tasmanians in their everyday lives.
"Whether it be our energy bill relief payments, our free school lunches, stamping out stamp duty or our half-price public transport fares, our cost-of-living measures to support Tasmanians have made a meaningful difference in the lives of many," Premier Rockliff said.
"At the same time, we have been forging ahead with our economy-boosting agenda to create more jobs and send a strong message to the world that Tasmania is open for business. And we are only just getting started.
"By backing in our job-rich business, industry and resource sectors, we have been able to deliver enormous opportunities that will see them expand and grow for years to come – keeping our economy strong and Tasmanians employed."
Since securing a historic fourth term, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has been relentless in its pursuit of continuing to make Tasmania the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
"In the past seven months, we've employed almost 1400 health workers and saved our paramedics from spending 9300 hours on the ramp through our new transfer of care protocol - ensuring Tasmanians get access to the health care they deserve sooner," Premier Rockliff said.
"We've made enormous gains in building a better health system with major upgrades progressing at each of our major hospitals.
"And we've reached into primary health care by recruiting more GPs for our regional communities and expanding the scope of our pharmacies so they can provide medications like UTI antibiotics and the oral contraceptive pill – saving Tasmanians thousands of hours and dollars seeing a GP.
"We've made homeownership a reality for thousands more Tasmanians with stamp duty removed on first home purchases up to $750,000 and enabled more Tasmanians to buy their home with just a 2 per cent deposit."
Making sure our young people are safe, learning, in training, or working has been part of this Liberal Government's agenda for the past 10 years, and we have ramped up the focus in 2024.
"Ensuring young people have the best possible to start to life is critical, and that's why we have delivered Child and Family Learning Centres in Wynyard, Kingborough and Sorell – with four more super centres on their way," Premier Rockliff said.
"Our School Building Blitz has commenced with 15 schools set to be upgraded right across the State, and two brand new schools at Brighton and Legana will open to students in just a few months.
"We are also driving change to ensure Tasmania is a more inclusive and safer place for people living with disability through the nation-leading Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024."
The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue its strong record of delivering for all Tasmanians as we keep our economy strong, create jobs and take action on cost of living.
Premier Rockliff thanked the Parliament for their cooperation and pragmatism as we have delivered better outcomes for Tasmania.
"This is the Parliament that Tasmanians voted for, and we will continue to work together for the good of Tasmanians in 2025."
