You can have your say On Accessibility In Darwin

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is seeking community feedback to guide the development of an Access Strategy that will address the access needs of various groups of people within the municipality.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said City of Darwin is committed to making Darwin a place that is inclusive and accessible for all.

"We are preparing a five-year Access Strategy that will outline the goals we want to achieve and the actions we will take to ensure our city is accessible to our community," Mr Vatskalis said.

"We want to hear from people on the effectiveness of our existing accessibility approaches and facilities, as well as identify key concerns and aspirations around accessibility.

"The aim of the engagement is to understand community perspectives, concerns and priorities for accessibility in the municipality.

"Feedback received on how we can improve access will help create an Access Strategy that serves the needs of our diverse and vibrant community.

The Access Strategy will establish a foundation for City of Darwin to address and enhance the access needs of people with a disability, the ageing population and visitors to our city.

Areas of consideration will not only include City of Darwin's built and natural environment, but also consider how we provide information, deliver our services and support our staff.

Participation in recreation, arts and events and recognising and celebrating achievements of people with disability will be factored into development of the strategy.

The Access Strategy 2025-2030 will continue the work undertaken under City of Darwin's Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2022 and the Community Access Plan 2012-2017.

Community engagement is open until Wednesday 13 November 2024.
