You can have your say on live animal export standards

Department of Agriculture and Water Resources

Public consultation on the 2023 update of the Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock (ASEL) is now open.

The 2023 ASEL update addresses matters raised by stakeholders relating to the export of livestock by sea and by air and proposes changes to maintain or improve animal health and welfare outcomes, reduce ambiguity and improve clarity and usability.

The department is inviting livestock exporters, industry bodies, animal welfare groups, producer groups and interested members of the public to provide their input. Feedback can be provided through the Have Your Say platform.

Submissions should indicate the matters you are providing comments on with supporting evidence and propose alternative options where relevant. Consultation will be open for a period of four weeks, concluding on 21 July 2023.

We are committed to engaging with stakeholders and reviewing the ASEL regularly. This will ensure the standards remain fit for purpose and reflect the latest scientific evidence and best practice.

The department will consider all feedback in finalising the 2023 ASEL update.
