For over 30 years Knox City Council has been supporting new young parents to have the best start to their parenting journey.
For 2 hours on a Friday morning new young parents under the age of 25 years, with a baby under 12 months old, are provided with the opportunity to come together in a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and build a supportive community.
The program is aimed at empowering young people to build their parenting and life skills by increasing their access to services, provide individual support and referrals, provide skills based sessions such as budgeting, sexual health, mental health, first aid, healthy relationships and coping skills. The program also encourages the building of strong social connections, essential to the parenting journey. At the end of the group the young parents are supported to transition into their own playgroup.
The sessions are supported by a qualified Youth Worker and a Small Talk Playgroup Facilitator.
"Coming to this group every Friday is the only day of the week I look forward to. It's a space where I can just be me and just be with my baby, socialising, feeling cared for and learning and I love it."
The next program will commence in March.
