Young Reporters Cover Favelas 20 Initiative

Last month, students from the Technological Educational Gymnasium (GET) covered the launch of the Favelas 20 initiative in Morro do Vidigal, Rio de Janeiro. Among the interviewees, there were Rene Silva, founder of Voz das Comunidades (Communities' Voice), and Lucas Padilha, president of the Rio G20 Committee.

Last month, under the coordination of Voz das Comunidades (Communities' Voice), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that promotes activities in the areas of social impact and community journalism, the Favelas 20 (F20) initiative was launched, with the objective of ensuring the presence of favela movements in the decision-making processes of the G20.

On the occasion, Morro do Vidigal, with views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, Christ the Redeemer and Morro Dois Irmãos, turned its gaze inwards towards the community. With five thematic panels under discussion, the event opened with a video sent by the sociologist and first lady of Brasil, Janja Lula da Silva, who congratulated the initiative and also invited those present to strengthen the Global Alliance against Hunger.

The coverage included students from the Technological Educational Gymnasium (GET), which, under the coordination of the Agência de Notícias dos Alunos da Rede (Andar), a project developed by the Municipal Education Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro, is part of Kids 20. The girls interviewed both Rene Silva, founder of Voz das Comunidades (Communities' Voice), and Lucas Padilha, president of the Rio G20 Committee. Watch it on the link:
