Young Socceroos Squad Named for Four Continents Tournament in Spain

An exciting mix of domestic and overseas based players have been selected by Young Socceroos' Head Coach Trevor Morgan to represent Australia at the upcoming four continents U-20 Costa Cálida Supercup in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.

The 24-player Young Socceroos' squad will face Chile, England, and Morocco at Pinatar Arena between September 21 and 27, giving some of the country's best emerging players the chance to pit themselves against elite international opposition during the September FIFA window.

Socceroos v New Zealand - The Farewell Match - Brisbane

Speaking on the squad and the tournament itself, Trevor Morgan said: "Our youth national teams have been starved of international competitions due to the pandemic, however Football Australia is committed to providing as many opportunities as possible to support the development of our leading youth footballers and the Young Socceroos participation in the Costa Cálida Supercup in Spain is a great first step for this group.

"We have a highly talented crop of footballers in this group, who play either locally or in leagues around the world and selecting a squad for this tournament created a welcomed headache.

"To be able to play world class opposition from three confederations in Morocco, Chile and reigning under-19 European Champions - England, within the space of eight days presents an ideal learning experience for this squad as we prepare for future tournaments and develop the next generation of Olyroos and Socceroos," Trevor Morgan concluded.

The Young Socceroos participation in the Costa Cálida Supercup followed Football Australia informing the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) of its withdrawal from the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022™ Qualifiers scheduled to be held in Basra, Iraq from 10 - 18 September on travel advice from the Australian Government. The AFC has since confirmed that this Qualifying Group will no longer be hosted by Iraq and during the September FIFA window, with further updates pending.

With U-17 National Team Head Coach and Young Socceroos' Assistant Coach, Brad Maloney, preparing the Joeys for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023™ Qualifiers, former Socceroo and current Central Coast Mariners Head of Youth Development, Luke Wilkshire, will support Trevor Morgan during this tournament in Spain.

All matches of the U-20 Costa Cálida Supercup will be streamed through the Pinatar Arena YouTube channel.
