Your Move Connecting Schools Grants get WA students moving

  • 2021-22 Your Move Connecting Schools Grants applications now open
  • $125,000 in grants available to promote riding, scooting and walking to school
  • Your Move has 173 registered WA schools on the journey to help students get active
  • McGowan Government upgrading shared paths and closing gaps on the cycling network
  • The State Government is providing local students and their families with a $125,000 boost to become more active, with applications open for the 2021-22 Connecting Schools Grants.

Connecting Schools Grants are linked to accreditation levels in the Your Move Schools program, which encourages more students to cycle and walk to school.

Western Australian schools already participating in the program, as well as schools that would like to be involved, can apply for a Connecting Schools funding package.

The funding provides schools with bike and scooter parking, bike repair stations, wayfinding signage, and bike skills or road safety education to encourage active transport.

There are 28 Connecting Schools packages waiting to be unlocked before December 31 and the level of accreditation determines the grant package the school can redeem.

To apply for a Connecting Schools Grant or to register your school in the Your Move Schools program, visit the Your Move website.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"My kids and I love to go for a bike ride, so I'm really supportive of the Your Move program which encourages more kids to walk and ride to school.

"Studies have shown schools involved in the Your Move program can expect walking and bike riding rates to rise, on average, by up to 36 per cent.

"This year we have allocated $125,000 towards the Connecting Schools program which can go towards bike and scooter parking, bike repair stations, wayfinding signage and bike skills or road safety education.

"If your local school is interested I'd encourage you to get involved!"
