A youth has been charged with a string of traffic offences after a pursuit yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 1.30pm yesterday, at a home on Page Street, Moruya, a 15-year-old boy allegedly approached a 47-year-old woman armed with a knife and demanded keys to a vehicle.
The woman was able to flag a passing motorist who stopped and assisted, before the 15-year-old fled the area empty handed. No one was injured.
A short time later, the boy allegedly attended a home on Evans Street, Moruya and approached the male and female residents, aged 72 and 73, and demanded keys to a vehicle.
He left the area empty handed and attended a supermarket on Ford Street, Moruya and approached a 70-year-old woman.
Police have been told the 15-year-old, armed with a knife, demanded the keys to the man’s vehicle, before fleeing in the Mitsubishi Colt.
Officers attached to Far South Coast Local Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries.
Police sighted the vehicle on Princes Highway, Moruya, and attempted to pull the car over; however, it accelerated away from police.
A pursuit was initiated but terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the vehicle was sighted on the Princes Highway, Batemans Bay, and police initiated another pursuit.
Road spikes were deployed and the car eventually stopped on the Princes Highway at Termeil.
As police approached the car, it attempted to accelerate colliding with a marked police vehicle.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested, during which a police officer was allegedly assaulted.
He was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged with:
- Demand property with menace x2
- Robbery armed with offensive weapon
- Custody of knife in public place
- Destroy or damage property
- Not stop vehicle when directed to do so
- Drive recklessly / furiously or speed / manner dangerous
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
- Unlicensed / never held
- Exceed speed over 30km
- Assault police x2
- Resist police officer
- And a number of other traffic offences
He was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court today.
