Youth Council to Shape Future Agenda

A dynamic group of young leaders has been appointed to the Moira Shire 'Youth Council' to provide important advice on issues facing young people and shape the future of the Shire.

The Youth Council provides a platform for young people to have their voices heard on key issues affecting them, and to offer advice on youth policies, services and initiatives. Members will also help plan and develop events that build engagement, leadership and a sense of community among Moira Shire's youth.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the Youth Council will be an invaluable link between young people and Council.

"These 10 people have shown they are passionate about providing a voice for young people in the Shire, and they are committed to working to advocate for key issues facing our young people, helping to identify priorities for youth engagement and driving projects that are important for the next generation," Dr Emonson said.

"This is a unique opportunity for young people to gain a range of new skills and develop their leadership capabilities, all while helping to improve outcomes for youth in the Shire.

"Council is excited to see the positive impact these young leaders will have in the Shire and is looking forward to what they can achieve over the next couple of years."

The Moira Youth Council began their term in February, with the first full meeting in April.
