- Recipients of the 2023 Youth Engagement Grants Program announced
- 26 organisations awarded grants of up to $10,000 to engage young people in ways that benefit their community
Local governments and community service organisations have been awarded a total of $200,000 in funding under the Youth Engagement Grants Program 2023.
The Youth Engagement Grants Program supports initiatives and projects that promote and empower young people.
The grants will be used to launch projects that enable young people aged between 10 to 25 years to achieve positive outcomes in the community.
The Youth Engagement Grants provide up to $10,000 per grant to support local government and community service organisations across the State who work to positively engage young Western Australians.
Some of the organisations to receive funding include:
- The Nintirri Centre located in Tom Price will hold Self Esteem Lessons as part of their Youth Development Program. The program seeks to work predominantly with Aboriginal youth over 5-week terms to build confidence and resilience;
- The Shire of Denmark will develop an inaugural Youth Strategy and Action Plan in partnership with the Youth Affairs Council of WA;
- The City of Melville, for the Koolunga Kaat and Ngany Matter project. This will support the Youth-Drop-In program and engage First Nations youth to inform a trial counselling service; and
- Warmun Local Drug Action Group, for the Tools of Engagement - Change, One Tyre at a Time project. The project will teach young people important life skills including vehicle maintenance and educate them on the impacts of alcohol and drug misuse.

As stated by Youth Minister Simone McGurk:
"These programs funded under The Youth Engagement Grants Program are thoughtful and creative. They reflect the capacity of young people to drive change in their community.
"It is so important that young people are given the opportunity for leadership and capacity building, and I look forward to seeing young people reach their full potential under these programs".
