Zillmere Office Boosts Community Ties, Support

Settlement Services International

SSI is expanding its footprint in Queensland with the official opening of a new office in Zillmere, designed to strengthen partnerships and deliver complementary services to one of Brisbane's most diverse and fast-growing communities.

The new office will be officially opened on Thursday, 24 April, from 10am–12noon, by the Member for Lilley, the Hon Anika Wells MP, State Member for Nudgee, the Hon Leanne Linard MP, and local councillors.

Located in the heart of Zillmere, the hub will serve as a central point for the delivery of the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) program, which supports newly arrived migrants and refugees as they navigate life in Australia.

SSI Queensland State Director Robert Hoitink said the office responds to growing local demand and offers a new base from which to collaborate with community partners.

"Zillmere is home to a vibrant and growing population, including many newly arrived individuals and families. Our presence here will help us deliver place-based, culturally-responsive support that reflects the community's needs," Mr Hoitink said.

"At SSI, we believe that everyone deserves a fair start. This new office enables us to invest further in social inclusion, employment pathways and local partnerships that help people reach their full potential."

The SETS program delivers early settlement support, helping newcomers build the skills, knowledge and networks they need to engage in society, gain economic independence, and thrive emotionally and socially. SSI will also work alongside existing local services to ensure coordinated and wrap-around support for clients.

"We're not here to duplicate what others are doing – we're here to collaborate," said Ms Yamamah Agha, SSI's General Manager for Newcomers, Integration and Settlement.

"Our existing relationships with councils, faith and cultural leaders, NGOs and government services mean we're well placed to build on that ecosystem of support for individuals and families.

"The Zillmere office marks another step in SSI's commitment to delivering community-led, strengths-based services across Queensland, in partnership with those who know their communities best."
