The Colac Otway Shire Council is asking residents to close their browser windows and shop local instead of online this Christmas.
This week, Council is launching the first in a series of videos produced as part of Colac Otway's new Buy Local campaign.
Featuring local businesspeople from Colac, Apollo Bay, Beeac, Forest and Birregurra, the short films tell a story of resilience during the Covid19 pandemic and reflects on the strength and power of community.
Colac Otway Shire Mayor Cr Kate Hanson, says she is proud of how the community has pulled together during the pandemic, and is confident people will take the opportunity to support local businesses whenever they can.
"The entire shire will all benefit from local spending, and as a community, together we are stronger," Cr Hanson said.
"Businesses have told us that pride in our community and awareness of what our shire offers are key strengths and we are building on these through our Buy Local campaign.
"During the COVID19 situation we have seen a groundswell of community support for our local businesses and the spirit of community is stronger than ever," she said.
"I urge you to spend locally wherever you can and wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas."
The videos form part of a Digital Media Kit that also includes a photo bank and suggested text that can be used to promote buying local.
These resources will be made available to every business via Council's website at https://www.colacotway.vic.gov.au/Business-investment/Business-Support/Buy-Local
The Media Kit showcases the diversity of locally made products and features places and faces from across Colac Otway.
Materials can be downloaded and used by anyone wishing to promote the Buy Local message in the coming months.
In the end, it's a simple message: the more money you spend in your local community, the more you are supporting friends and neighbours. Buying local will make everyone's Christmas brighter and building community pride will support a positive, confident start for 2021.
