On International Workers' Day, I wish to express my deep gratitude to all workers across the Americas whose daily efforts sustain our societies, strengthen our economies, and make possible the prosperity to which we all aspire.
Behind every service, every institution, every enterprise, and every community, there are people whose labor, dedication, and sacrifice deserve our recognition and respect. Whether in the public or private sector, in formal or informal work, in cities, rural areas, homes, schools, factories, hospitals, offices, and fields, workers are at the heart of our collective progress.
Even as new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, and automation reshape the world of work, we must never lose sight of the importance of individual labor and human dignity. Technology can help us increase productivity and open new opportunities, but progress must always go hand in hand with rights, fairness, social protection, and respect for the people who make our economies function.
Across our region, we continue to face important structural challenges that require urgent and sustained attention from governments, employers, and workers' organizations. Too many workers still face informality, inequality, unsafe conditions, limited opportunities, or insufficient protection. These challenges cannot be solved by any one sector alone. We must find solutions together, through dialogue, cooperation, and a shared commitment to building fairer and more inclusive labor markets.
Our goal must be prosperity with fairness. Every worker should have the right to a safe and peaceful working environment, decent wages, and the opportunity not only to work, but to build a better future for themselves and their families. A fair society also means recognizing the importance of balance: allowing people to contribute productively while also living with dignity, health, security, and time for family and community life.
I also wish to recognize the dedicated workforce of the Organization of American States itself, as well as all those who work with and around our institution, including the members and staff of the Permanent Missions of our member states, the Permanent Observer Missions, and the many partners who contribute to the daily life and mission of the OAS. Their professionalism, commitment, and service help us advance democracy, human rights, security, and development for the people of the Americas.
On this International Workers' Day, the OAS General Secretariat reaffirms its commitment to walking hand-in-hand with our member states, our partners, and our own workforce in fostering the most inclusive, prosperous, fair, and healthy labor markets possible, environments where every worker in the Americas can thrive and achieve peace and prosperity.
