Two Creators Give Heart To National Families Week

FEM

How did an author Susanne Gervay OAM and illustrator Carolyn Daly get together to celebrate National Families Week? They have children and families that are blended, multi-generational, born through assisted fertility, IVF. It was a match made in heaven so they created 'Guess How I Was Born'.

Every May, thousands of people and organisations come together for National Families Week 11-17th May. It coincides with the United Nations International Day of Families on 15 May. Families are so varied just like the multi-generational family of Nanna and her two grandsons. Susanne is reading them a story.

Families are made up in different ways - two dads or two mothers; adopted; step children; nuclear families or mixed ethnicities and more. It's all about inclusion, diversity and equality.

Susanne Gervay's granddaughter was born with assisted fertility through IVF. Her birth was such a celebration. Susanne wrote 'Guess How I Was Born' illustrated by Carolyn Daly to the share the joy of all families. Featured in Woman's Day, it is a miracle family.

Pre-schools, schools, communities are gathering to embrace families. They are the heart of who we are.
